Aqualimpia Engineering (AQL) has been at the forefront of waste-to-energy innovation for over 30 years. We specialize in transforming organic waste and wastewater into sustainable energy, converting environmental liabilities into profitable and reliable energy assets through high-efficiency, tailor-made solutions.

For the past two decades, our core business has focused on designing and constructing specialized systems for tropical climates. We have mastered the engineering discipline of “tropicalizing” advanced technology — successfully bridging high-end German engineering standards with the operational realities of the regions where our plants are built.

What differentiates AQL is not only design capability — it is full technical integration.

  • We do not limit ourselves to theoretical engineering.
  • We design, we construct, we supervise, and in selected cases, we manufacture key components. This integrated approach allows us to control quality, optimize performance, and ensure that every project moves from concept to commissioning under coherent technical leadership.
  • Our long-standing partnerships — spanning more than 30 years — with specialized European manufacturers give us direct access to the latest generation of industrial equipment. Blowers, mixers, safety systems, gas handling components, membranes, and control technology are continuously improved and updated based on real operational feedback from the field.
  • Our engineering evolves with every project. Each new installation refines our standards, improves our construction methodology, and enhances operational reliability. Experience gained on-site is systematically incorporated into future designs.
  • The result is not a simple structure covered with a membrane — but a fully engineered industrial digestion system designed for long-term, stable, and uninterrupted biogas production.

Engineering is not a promise. It is a discipline built on experience, precision, and continuous improvement

Our Unique Approach: Engineering with Purpose

  • What truly sets Aqualimpia apart is our commitment to practical and independent sustainability. We reject "one-size-fits-all" imported models in favor of a more intelligent design philosophy:
  • Tropicalized German Technology: We adapt rigorous German technical standards to thrive in high-temperature and high-humidity environments, ensuring maximum biological efficiency where others fail.
  • Local Integration & Economic Efficiency: Our systems are engineered to utilize local construction materials. This significantly reduces initial investment, strengthens the local economy, and simplifies logistics.
  • Smart Simplicity over Complexity: We avoid over-sophisticating our designs. By focusing on robust, reliable engineering, we ensure our plants are not perpetually dependent on imported spare parts, allowing for easier maintenance and local sourcing of components.

Project Delivery Models

Turnkey Solutions (Full EPC)

  • We take full responsibility for the project from concept to completion, providing a "hassle-free" experience.
  • Scope: Comprehensive Engineering, Procurement, and Construction.
  • Key Benefit: A single point of contact and total accountability, ensuring the project is delivered ready for immediate operation.

Equipment & Supervision (Hybrid Model)

This model is designed for clients who prefer to manage their own civil works while relying on our technical expertise for the critical technology and integration.

  • Civil Works: Executed by the client according to our technical specifications.
  • Our Scope:  Equipment Supply: Delivery of all specialized machinery and systems.
  • Site Supervision: Expert oversight of the civil construction to ensure technical compliance.
  • Installation & Commissioning: Professional assembly and rigorous system startup.
  • Training: Comprehensive operational and maintenance training for your staff.

Collaborative Success: Even when you lead the civil works, our supervision ensures that every foundation and structure perfectly aligns with the technical requirements of the equipment, protecting your investment and long-term warranty.

Our Step-by-Step Execution: From Groundbreaking to Commissioning

Precision Excavation & Site Preparation

Everything starts with a solid foundation. We manage or supervise the earthworks to ensure the site meets the exact geometric and structural specifications required for optimal biodigester performance. (Excavación y preparación del terreno)

Civil construction optimized for efficiency, executed with professional surveying instrumentation and rigorous technical oversigh

High-Integrity HDPE Lining System – Engineered for Long-Term Protection

The entire lagoon is lined with a high-quality HDPE geomembrane to ensure complete protection against infiltration into the subsoil. This impermeable barrier safeguards groundwater resources and guarantees environmental compliance from the very beginning of operation.

  • Special attention is given to the sealing of the perimeter walls. The geomembrane is properly anchored and sealed to prevent any contact between the digestate and the concrete structure, thereby eliminating the risk of corrosion and ensuring long-term structural durability.
  • The installation is carried out with strict technical control, including proper surface preparation, wrinkle-free placement, controlled welding procedures, and verified seam integrity. The precision of the lining work demonstrates structural solidity and engineering discipline.

In one of the images, a lateral agitator is already installed, showing the integration of mechanical components within the lined structure. It is important to note that once the lagoon is completed, it will be covered with a gas-tight membrane roof. After this stage, the bottom liner is no longer visible or accessible. For this reason, the correct and professional installation of the HDPE membrane at this phase is critical — it must be executed flawlessly, as post-installation inspection becomes extremely limited.

Advanced Equipment Integration and Final Handover & Operational Readiness

While the civil structure takes shape, we integrate the core technology: mixing systems,  and gas management units. This is where our engineering expertise ensures all components work in perfect harmony. From the final sealing to the first flame. We conduct rigorous pressure tests, system commissioning, and staff training to ensure the biodigester is 100% ready for long-term, sustainable operation.

What you see here is not merely a covered lagoon. It is a fully engineered industrial anaerobic digester designed for long-term, continuous, and reliable biogas production.

The reinforced perimeter structure, the high-integrity lining system, and the professionally installed double-membrane gas-tight roof transform the excavation into a controlled biological reactor. Every component — including gas handling, safety systems, pressure control, and mixing technology — is designed to operate under industrial standards.

This is a closed, controlled digestion environment where biogas is produced permanently and consistently. The system is engineered to avoid operational interruptions, minimize downtime, and ensure stable methane generation throughout the year.

Integrated industrial safety features include:

  • Controlled gas storage and pressure regulation

  • Overpressure and vacuum protection systems

  • Secure anchoring and structural stability

  • Proper sealing to prevent emissions and infiltration

The result is not a simple storage basin with a cover — it is a high-efficiency energy production unit designed for continuous operation, long service life, and dependable performance.

Reliable biogas production requires engineering — not improvisation.
